Barbara Allen Mills, 66, of Roanoke Rapids died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at her home.

Barbara, a native of Jacksonville, was the daughter of the late Joseph William Allen, Sr.

She was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in History and Secondary Education. She later went back to school while living in Whiteville earning her degree in Elementary Education from Pembroke State. She taught school in Nash County, Whiteville City Schools, Waccamaw Academy, Halifax County, Weldon City Schools and retired from the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District.

She loved teaching school, especially Sunday school at Rosemary Baptist Church where she was a member.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 45 years, Andy Mills; their daughter, Amy Mills Olson and her husband, Matt, of Winston-Salem; their son, Blaine Allen Mills and his fiancé, Jessica Morris, of Roanoke Rapids; their grandchildren, Riley and Brayden Mills, Ethan and Sadie Olson; her mother, Evelyn T. Allen, and her brother, Joseph William Allen, Jr., both of Jacksonville.

A funeral service will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Rosemary Baptist Church with Dr. Layne Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9:45 a.m. until service time in the church fellowship hall.
